Hi,
I wrote an email on the science of Nomio a few months ago. The basic summary: the extract from broccoli sprouts may reduce lactate levels during intense exercise. But I think that a lot of the benefit might stem back to mitochondrial adaptation, with one 2025 study finding that the active ingredient “mimics training-induced mitochondrial adaptations” in test tubes.
That’s weird. That’s cool. That’s scary? Maybe for the competition! Possibly for other things! I don’t know, this isn’t medical advice.
I wanted to write an update to let you know what I’m hearing. My ear is on the ground so much that red ants are colonizing my head cavities.
Studies are important, but they rarely reveal the mysteries of performance. A study just came out last week that showed calibrated metabolic carts have 3% to 10% variation in VO2 max calculations relative to absolute numbers. Changes in training and performance are tough to isolate in a lab because they are usually lower than error bars from the instruments and fatigue tests themselves. That’s why it’s key to look to the real world, where performance margins are extremely narrow.
Nomio seems to have taken over triathlon, a sport where athletes are looking for every percent. It’s all over cycling. And most interestingly to me, many of the marathon breakthroughs in 2026 have come with Nomio on board. If an athlete you have never heard of runs a time that shocks the world, they were probably taking Nomio.
What are we seeing? I don’t know! Stop asking questions!
What I’m hearing is that athletes think Nomio enhances their training response, rather than using it strictly as an ergogenic performance aid. They’re often describing reduced fatigue and soreness, especially in heavy training. The exact protocols vary, but some athletes are even taking it in the evening!
The placebo effect is a bitch, but the pro athlete adoption points toward a serious signal. My current suggestion is for athletes to try it 2 times per week and monitor how they feel after 1 or 2 boxes.
Broccoli sprouts. What the hell. Get them here.
