Hey, |
Earlier in the week, we covered how the media’s reporting influenced the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting. I want to take a moment to cover how it responded to the shooting, which has already faded from the headlines, largely in part because of the shooter’s political motivations. |
His manifesto was available to all, and we quickly saw that: |
He parroted mainstream media talking points about President Trump being a “rapist” and a “pedophile.”
He was active on the left-wing social media platform Bluesky, where he posted conspiracy theories about the Butler, PA, assassination attempt on Trump being staged.
He donated to Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign.
He was a member of a progressive activist group called The Wide Awakes.
|
Some honest members of the press quickly called out Allen for what he was — a leftist whose views of Trump were in line with the mainstream media’s. But most ignored this and pretended like these facts didn’t exist. |
For example, MS NOW reporter Josh Einiger said he was “uncertain” about the shooter’s motive despite noting his strong hatred of Trump as was revealed in his manifesto. Former President Barack Obama also faked naivety as to what the shooter’s motive was. Again, it was abundantly clear from his manifesto. |
Besides just the dishonesty, the mainstream press went so far as to repeat the shooter’s slanders directly at President Trump in a sit-down interview with him after the dinner. CBS’ Norah O’Donnell asked the president what he thought of being labeled a “rapist” and “pedophile” by the shooter. |
Think about how ridiculous this is. These reporters spent years pushing those slanders. The assassin bought in. He tried to kill the president. And then the same press goes to Trump and asks how he feels about the man who tried to kill him, parroting the names they've been calling him for years. |
And just days after these events — when the links between mainstream media narratives and the shooter’s own justifications were plainly visible — left-leaning outlets went right back to calling Donald Trump a Nazi. |
Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O'Donnell went live on MS NOW, calling the federal government’s immigration detention centers “concentration camps” — a deliberate invocation of Nazi imagery. |
And this isn’t even new for the network. In a defamation case they settled last year, internal messages from Chris Hayes showed hosts intentionally chose language to use on their programs to evoke “Third Reich” imagery. |
The media is actively feeding viewers misinformation to push them to the extremes. That leads to more assassination attempts — but closer to home, it divides us and ends friendships over which news source someone watches, and tears families apart. |
It doesn't have to be this way. There is no case to be made for political violence. And things aren't as bad as the media wants you to believe. The traditions that built this country are genuinely worth celebrating, but the media doesn’t want us to share that. |
That's what we try to give you every day — the real picture, told plainly and without the drama, so you and the people you care about can stay informed without feeling like the world is on fire. We want to be the news you can actually share with a family member who sees things differently, bringing you closer instead of further apart. |
The only way we can keep doing this work — which reaches hundreds of thousands of people every week — is with the support of our paid subscribers. So if you find value in this, if you want news you can share with family and friends who are being pulled into media circles that distort the truth, we need you to support us. |
