Hi,
I could talk about the Tour all day. I usually do, it's July, that's my lane, and if you've been on this list a while, you've heard me go deep on climbs and feed zones until your eyes glaze over.
Today I'm giving you a break from all that. Because the best cramping story of the summer isn't on a bike. It's at the World Cup.
Picture it: the USA-Australia group game in Seattle, noon kickoff, brutal heat. Late in stoppage time, someone goes down clutching his leg, and it's not a player. It's the referee.
Felix Zwayer, 45, flat on his back on the turf, leg locked up. What happened next is the part I love: a USA player and an Australian player, guys who'd spent ninety minutes trying to beat each other, both dropped down to stretch his leg out. Then the fourth official sprinted an energy gel onto the field to get him through the final minutes. A referee, taken out by a cramp, was rescued by the two teams he was officiating.
And he's not alone. This has been one of the hottest tournaments on record, and every time a match drags into extra time, you see it, players folding onto the grass in the 110th minute, trainers sprinting out to yank a hamstring straight. It's why my inbox has been full.
The number one thing athletes are asking me right now isn't about watts or shoes. It's how do I stop cramping
How to Stop Cramping:
One of the best options I have tried: Fixx Nutrition CrampFix
Fixx Nutrition CrampFix uses vinegar instead of pickle juice. Pickle Juice works great, but we have seen some athletes respond better to a vinegar-based product.
Fixx works through sensory receptors in your mouth that calm the misfiring nerves behind a cramp. Most people feel it in a minute or two. The vinegar hits harder when a cramp is actually happening and relieves it right away.
If it is hot - or if you have cramped before try this:
Take 1 CrampFix at the beginning of a workout/race that is over 45 minutes. Keep a second sachet near you in case you cramp. Being more proactive - especially when it is hot really helps avoid cramping altogether.
Fair warning: it tastes sharp. Really sharp. It almost gives you an adrenaline rush as much as relieving cramping.
Save 15% on all Fixx Nutrition today.
What a World Cup. The moment I keep coming back to isn't a goal, it's two players from opposite sides kneeling in the grass to stretch out the leg of the referee who'd been carding them all afternoon. That's the sport at its best. Good luck to everyone down the stretch, players and officials both. Take care of your legs, and each other.
- Matt
