01 MAHA candidates lose big in midterms
Tuesday was rough for the Make America Healthy Again movement. In Iowa, where Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called the governor's race "the most important election going on in this country," Republican Zach Lahn lost in a landslide. Two MAHA PACs had put $1.65 million behind him.
In Kansas, Sen. Roger Marshall (R), the chair of the congressional MAHA Caucus, lost his seat. In Texas, Ken Paxton (R), who had opened investigations into food and chemical companies, lost his Senate bid.
Some MAHA influencers blamed President Trump's support for glyphosate, the weedkiller many in the movement say causes cancer. Others pointed to low turnout among "MAHA moms."

02 Democrats plan healthcare push following midterm victory
Congressional Democrats have announced their healthcare priorities for the next session, and they're starting with two big moves: extending the enhanced Obamacare subsidies and reversing recent Medicaid cuts.
The enhanced subsidies, which lower monthly premiums for people buying insurance through the Affordable Care Act marketplaces, are set to expire soon. Without an extension, analysts estimate that around 3.5 million people could lose coverage because they can't afford the full price.
Democrats say restoring that coverage is urgent, especially for children and people with chronic conditions who lost access to medications and regular care. Beyond those two items, the party still has to decide which healthcare proposals get priority, and early reporting suggests there's no consensus yet on what comes next.

03 CVS Health is splitting into two companies
The pharmacy giant announced Wednesday that it will separate its retail pharmacies from its insurance and pharmacy benefits businesses. One company will run the drugstores. The other will house Aetna (insurance), Caremark (the middleman that negotiates drug prices), and its newer primary care clinics. The split should close by mid-2028.
The company says the breakup will let each business move faster and focus on what it does best. But in practice, CVS built this whole structure so it could control the full loop: write the insurance, manage the prescription benefits, and fill the pills at its own counter. Breaking that loop apart suggests the model did not work as well as promised.

✿ QUICK HITS — ON OUR RADAR

-
Propyl paraben, the preservative banned in Europe, is now under FDA safety review after studies linked it to reduced sperm count, lower testosterone, and fewer eggs in women. California, West Virginia, and Arkansas have already banned it from food starting in 2027.
-
Medicare Part D drug-plan premiums will jump 50 percent in 2027 if you stay in your current stand-alone plan, from $34 to $51 a month on average, after the Trump administration ended premium subsidies. Nearly 2.4 million people will see increases over $50 unless they switch during open enrollment, which ends December 7.

Sage tea works as a sore-throat gargle because its volatile oils soothe inflamed mucous membranes and kill microbes. Steep a teaspoon of ground sage in eight ounces of hot water for ten to twenty minutes, cool, then gargle every half hour as needed.

Yes, a lot: It’s so expensive that I don’t have insurance and choose to go at it on my own. $14,000 per year and an $11,000 deductible. Not for me. — Anonymous
A little: I'm on Medicare with a supplement. The monthly premium and the deductible have gone up year over year. — Anonymous
Not really: I fully self-pay. It’s cheaper so far than paying for insurance. — Anonymous
