Hi ,
I just finished a coaching session with a client and he said something to me I knew I had to share with you.
He'll be called “Don” in this email. Don’s 66, a widower, recently retired from a successful career as a physician. When he first reached out to talk he said he wasn’t quite sure why he was calling. After a few moments, the truth finally came out.
He said this: “I guess I just feel like I’ve lost myself. My old self. I looked in the mirror and almost didn’t recognize my own face. I even said out loud to my own reflection, ‘Hey, where’d you go?’”
Don went on to say that he felt like he’d lost touch with the man he once was. The man with the sharp wit. The man who read voraciously and had no trouble remembering everything that he read. The man who was confident, composed, active, and creative.
Instead, he felt like a fake version of that man. A shell or a mannequin.
There's terminology for this feeling. “Self-estrangement,” “depersonalization,” “self-disconnection,” or the more familiar “identity crisis.” Given what Don had been through - the loss of his beloved wife, and the transition into retirement - this made sense.
But just because there were reasons for this feeling didn’t mean Don wanted to keep feeling that way. And he was determined to change it. That determination, I pointed out, was a sign that the “old Don” was still in there, ready to do the work.
But what was the work? How do you reclaim your sense of self when you feel like that old, sharper, happier version of yourself has abandoned you or faded away?
Of course my go-to answer to that is usually some type of meditation. You start with the basics. You sit with your thoughts and feelings, as uncomfortable as they might be. You make space. You breathe. You create room for change and healing.
And I told him about Holosync as a tool to make this process easier and a lot more effective. With Holosync, you have a way of accelerating the change and the healing in ways nothing else can.
I bring this up because Don’s situation isn’t really that unique these days.
Our coaching team has seen an increase in these kinds of calls. People who might not have a specific issue they’re facing so much as a general sense of loss or disconnection. That feeling of, “Hey, where’d you go?” as Don described it.
If that’s you, I’m glad you’re reading this. Because it’s crucial to remember that there is an antidote to this feeling.
It doesn’t come from a bottle or a supplement or some invasive procedure. It comes from a very simple practice. Sitting down, making that space, and reconnecting with that fire inside that ignites the ideal version of the person you are.
And if you want to really supercharge this process (and who doesn’t?) I have one more piece of good news. We just cut the pricepoint of a bunch of our most popular Holosync suites for our anniversary. These are collections of beautiful Holosync soundtracks designed to help you light that fire and reclaim that person you want to be.
For Don, the timing couldn’t be better. He’s opted for two suites: Ultra Focus & Flow State, which is going to clear up his mental fog and help his brain feel more focused like it used to. And the Journey to Self Suite, which we recently remastered and is a comprehensive meditation journey designed to help Don reconnect to love, compassion, gratitude, and forgiveness.
But these are just two of the many options. So if, like Don, you feel a little disconnected, out of sorts, or disengaged from your sense of self, take a minute and look through the options for yourself.
And hey, after you do, drop me a note and tell me which ones you’re excited about. Perhaps you’re already working with one, and I’d love to know how it’s going! Hope to hear from you.
Because this is what I'm hoping for Don. I'm hoping that one of these mornings he looks in the mirror, and instead of asking where he went, he says, "Hey! There you are."
I'd love it if you experience that too.
Until next time, this is me, Just Checking In!
