Hi ,
Most of us probably have a medicine cabinet at home.
In my case, it’s more of a medicine drawer, but it’s the same idea. A case or cupboard you dig into when you need an aspirin for a headache, maybe something for an upset tummy after a spicy meal, or your trusty bottle of melatonin to help you sleep better.
Lately I’ve been telling you about sound healing - how different sounds can actually have a healing effect on your physiology down to the cellular level. And it got me thinking about the idea of a “sound medicine” cabinet!
I asked myself, what kinds of sounds do I find particularly soothing and healing? So I came up with a collection of my top five favorite healing sounds. Sounds I would keep on hand in my personal sound medicine cabinet.
First, I’d keep a large bottle of ocean sounds in my sound medicine cabinet. The sound of the sea has always been soothing to me, and there are good reasons why. Ocean surf can induce alpha brainwaves, the state of relaxation and mindful attention. Nature sounds in general are, of course, the most ancient sounds known to the human ear, and that familiarity runs through our very DNA.
Second, I would include a bottle of harp music. Harps are associated with angels, and I think it’s for a good reason. To me they just have a soft, yet bright and uplifting sound when played by an expert. Hearing harp music instantly makes me take a deep breath and relax.
Third, Tibetan meditation bowls. Crystal or metallic bowls have been used for centuries to help calm a busy mind and produce powerful resonant frequencies that can induce deep states of reflection and calm.
Fourth, I would definitely keep a supply of Om in my sound medicine cabinet. The ancient Sanskrit word “Om,” is said to be the primordial sound that created the universe itself. Research suggests that spending a few minutes chanting Om can stimulate the vagus nerve, shift the body into a parasympathetic state, and produce a profound state of centeredness and mental clarity.
And fifth, I would include a family-size container of therapeutic white noise in my sound medicine cabinet. White noise has been clinically proven to help calm and soothe the limbic system. It’s the ideal masking noise to filter out distracting environmental noises and is often used in hospital settings to ease stress and improve sleep in patients.
Okay, you’ve had a peek inside my sound medicine cabinet, so next I want to share a friendly reminder that we just released a special collection of sound healing videos called Sound Healing for the Soul.
We produced this in collaboration with the incredible NYT best-selling author, featured teacher in The Secret and one of Centerpointe’s closest friends, Marci Shimoff. This is a collection of seven sound healing videos, each including not just an incredible sound healing session, but behind-the-scenes insights from the musicians themselves.
That means you’re not just experiencing sound healing for yourself, you’re also learning a little something along the way about how powerful sound can be.
This collection is essentially your own sound medicine cabinet, hosted by Marci and presented by some of the most talented sound healing experts in the world!
And there’s one more thing you should know. For a short time we were including our newly released sound healing Holosync track The Sound Reset for the first 100 folks who signed up.
Well 100 orders came very quickly. But I just love this track so much that I managed to convince our CEO MaryEllen to make an exception for JCI readers like you!
That means if you say “yes” to the Sound Healing for the Soul collection at this very moment, you’ll also receive The Sound Reset included at no charge! Just a way of saying “thank you” for being a JCI reader.
And hey, before I go, what kinds of sounds would you include in your sound medicine cabinet? Maybe the wind blowing through the trees, or the deeply rich sounds of a cello? Or maybe the sweet sounds of a baby laughing, or summer rainfall? Drop me a note and let me know!
Until next time, this is me, Just Checking In!
