01 Europe banned this dye. It's still in your candy. |
Titanium dioxide, the white coloring in candy, gum and coffee creamer, floods your system when you eat it. Researchers had 31 adults take 2 mg/kg a day of the dye for 2 weeks, and the titanium in their bodies shot up about 60-fold, from 6.3 to 377 mg per kg.
Earlier research has tied it to gut inflammation, DNA damage, and colon cancer. It is the same additive the EU pulled from food in 2022. Ours is still in the Skittles. |

02 We're putting 8-year-olds on Ozempic |
We are now putting 8-year-olds on Ozempic. Prescriptions of GLP-1 drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy to US kids ages 8 to 11 without diabetes rose 310-fold since 2019, across records for 3.5 million children with obesity. Almost all, 93.7%, already had severe obesity, and kids in higher-income areas were 55% more likely to get one.
These drugs are not approved for anyone under 12, and there is no long-term data on what they do to a growing body. The scripts are being written anyway. |

03 Losing your senses is linked to losing your memory |
This one came across my feed and stuck with me, so I'm sharing it. Losing your hearing or eyesight is linked to losing your memory faster.
Researchers followed 16,083 older adults: those with hearing trouble were 16% more likely to slip from normal thinking into decline, those with vision trouble 18% more likely.
Both already sit on the short list of dementia risks doctors can actually track. |

04 The painkiller pregnant women trust, under the microscope |
Tylenol in pregnancy is now linked to changes in a baby girl's reproductive organs.
In the first human study to check, researchers tracked acetaminophen exposure in the womb, then imaged the daughters years later. The more the mother took, the smaller the girl's ovaries, the fewer egg-holding follicles she had, and the smaller her uterus.
Acetaminophen is the one painkiller pregnant women are told is safe. It sits in almost every medicine cabinet, and now it is the thing under the microscope. |

✿ QUICK HITS — ON OUR RADAR |
The FDA scrambled to keep premature newborns fed. After the 2 companies that make ready-to-use IV nutrition for critically ill babies said they are quitting the product for good, the FDA rushed out guidance letting hospitals mix it themselves so the supply does not run dry.
Two fresh studies refined the dementia playbook. A daily serving of leafy greens was tied to 18% less dementia, while movement cut both ways: leisure exercise lowered risk 24%, but heavy physical labor on the job raised it 20%.
Plastic is turning up in the blood of heart-attack patients. Of 61 people studied, 84% of those hit with a heart attack had microplastics, tiny plastic fragments, in their blood, versus 32% of people with clean arteries. The sicker the heart, the more plastic.
UV light may lower your odds of diabetes. In UK Biobank data, people who used tanning beds most often had 22% lower odds of type 2 diabetes, and higher recent UV exposure tracked with lower blood sugar. It raises skin-cancer risk, so no one is prescribing a sunbed. But UV clearly does something for metabolism.
The new cholesterol rules just made 21.5 million more Americans statin candidates. The 2026 guideline update pushes about 87.5 million US adults ages 30 to 79 without heart disease, more than half of that group, into statin-eligible territory. The bar to put you on a lifelong pill keeps dropping.

✿ WILD STORY |
Here is a cautionary tale for the carnivore crowd. A man in his 40s went all in, eating as much as 9 pounds of cheese a day, plus sticks of butter and fatty burgers, for 8 months. Then yellow, waxy bumps began pushing out through the skin of his palms, elbows and feet.
Doctors ran his blood and found his cholesterol had passed 1,000, about 5 times a normal reading. The bumps were the cholesterol itself, leaking out and hardening under the skin. The case ran in JAMA Cardiology.
Even a good idea, taken to 9 pounds of cheese a day, stops being one. |

✿ ONE GOOD THING |
Fitz Davis was 9 when doctors found a rare liver cancer, its biggest tumor about 20 centimeters across. His way of coping was to make cheerful little videos, which his mom shared online, and thousands of strangers around the world wrote back.
On June 24 he rang the bell that marks the end of treatment, cancer-free, then turned 10 a few weeks later, with the people who had followed every step. A scary year, met with a kid's stubborn good cheer. And it worked. |
